GeoCaching Event Preparations

Flashing In “Fashion” GC43Y4T

event3
It is time for our January event and we are hosting a Flash Mob in Fashion Place Mall, hence the name Flashing in “Fashion.” This won’t be your typical Flash Mob, our Mob includes a group of geocachers meeting at the food court and then finding caches hidden in the mall. Each cache will have a color coded set of numbers inside, each cacher will randomly select a number and once they find all 9 caches they will return to the original Mob site to see if they have the winning number to exchange for a prize. Above are some of the prizes we are working on. The prizes are sure to please.
event2
Due to the number of people attending we will be breaking up into groups. Each group of cachers will be given a Clue Book and sent off on a fantastic mall adventure.
event1
We are also going to make sure cachers get to know each other at this event. We have held other events where people are not sure who is who. Not at this event! Geocaching name tags will be very helpful.
event4
Whenever we have an event we like to make sure there is a cache published near by. This is a good way to earn at least two smileys at the event. So we went and placed some caches in the area near mall. So cachers here is a spoiler for one of them, you have to figure out which one it is. The best cache hide during an event was our CSI Episode 7 Liver & Onions the waitress actually delivered it to the event on a tray after the FTF.
I think we are just about ready. It is a lot of work to host an event but it is the best feeling in the world when it is over and everyone had such a great time.

The ART in geocaching

The ART in Geocaching

cacheart7
Have you seen some of the great artwork in the Geocaching world. I have recently been introduced to some of these wonderful creations and started looking for more.
cacheart9
The time and effort put into making this art is unbelievable.

Who knew you could make such great pictures using geocaches as a medium. It still amazes me that the creators of these masterpieces were able to create such masterpices.
From trains and RV’s to paw prints and guitars they all share one similarity, they are drawn on a map. These pictures are wonderful.

I was first introduced to this while in Seattle,WA for Geowoodstock. Some of the locals teamed up and made a peace sign made with mystery cache icons in the middle of Lake Washington. The final coordinates for the puzzles took you on a journey around the different sides of the lake. I thought this was a very creative way to use up space that usually wouldn’t have a cache on it on the map.
cacheart6     Soon after returning home from that trip I was told about the Scouting series in Utah. This group of caches forms the picture of a scouting fleur-de-lis. I have had this series on my to do list for way to long now and am hoping to find them this spring when the snow melts.
After talking about these cool creations with some other geocachers at events I have been told about a few more pictures with geocaches that I enjoyed searching for. I have included the screen shots of them below. If you want to search for these pictures check out these links to one cache in the series and view the map.

Utah says Good bye to Dollface

Our dear caching friend Jackie (Dollface) has set her sight on a warmer climate. Yesterday Jackie left the snow packed streets of Utah and pointed her loaded U Haul towards the sun filled streets of Arizona. We are going to miss caching with our dear friend however we now have a new vacation spot and personal caching guide when we head south. Dollface and her first cache.

Dollface and I met at work and I found out she was an avid traveler so naturally I told her about Geocaching and I was interested in here moving some travel bugs out of the country. She was immediately interested and I told her she needed a caching name and then we would set her up an account. Within a millisecond  she replies, “Dollface".” So the cacher Dollface was born.

She has been a great friend on and off of the caching trail. She always supports all of our events and is the first to plan a Dollface SWAG making night. Dollface has gone on family camping trips and helped contribute to many caches we have placed. Dollface is always ready for a day of caching and is excited to cache on every trip she takes. She has introduces several people to our sport as well as her family. Dollface has cached in places we dream of caching and there is more to come. Below are a few of our favorite Dollface Pictures.

Feeding your Cacher

Recipes to please after a day of caching

posole1
We decided to expand our content with the new year and we are going to be adding some of our favorite recipes. These recipes will be easy to fix or meals and treats you can take on the caching trail. If any of you have any recipes you would love to share, we would love to try them and feature them on our site.  Our first recipe is one of our favorites and can be started before you leave for a day of caching and finish when you get home, then enjoy! I wish I would have had some of this delicious Posole waiting for me after our  100 caches in a day (read about it here) challenge.
Darcey's Delicious Posole' Easy delicious authentic Latino dish. I learned to make this in New Mexico from my extended family when my Grandfather passed away. Over the years I have changed the recipe to make it my own version. Warning: If you start making this, you will be asked to make it all of the time! Picture is without diced tomatoes, once they are added the broth turns a reddish color, tomatoes optional, I prefer it with them. posole

posole3
Garnishes:
All garnishes are optional after soup is cooked you can add any of the following to top of soup to add great flavor and variety.
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro (garnish)
  • lime wedges (garnish)
  • 1 Bag of shredded cabbage or a head of cabbage cut into shreds
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped radishes
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese (Mexican blend or cheddar)
  • Salsa
  • Flour Tortillas to dip in soup while eating

Directions:

After preparing the pork roast in the crock pot* *(2-3 lb pork roast placed in crock pot with 1/4 cup soy sauce on low for 4-6 hours, you will be able to determine when the roast is done by pushing on it with a fork. When it falls apart it is done, shred with fork inside the crock pot so it absorbs the juices) After shredded add all of the ingredients. Stir well. Once everything is added make sure you add enough water to cover the hominy. Slow cook for 4-6 hours. You will be able to tell when it is ready when the hominy is soft. After it is cooked serve in bowls and add optional garnishes. I am attaching some pictures to help you see what seasonings you need and what the finished product should look like. Put the roast in crock pot night before on low when you wake up, shred the meat and add the rest of the ingredients. Turn crock pot to low and head out for a day of caching. When you return your house will smell so good and you will have a delicious warm dish to feed your hunger. If any of you try this please send pictures or a review, it is an easy inexpensive dish that is a crowd pleaser. Don’t forget to follow is so you can be entered in our personalized SWAG contest. If you already follow us make sure you comment so we can get  you entered. 000bloggiveaway1 Happy Caching, we are on day 11 of cache a day and there is 14’ of snow outside.
