 On Sunday April 14 2013 we made a trip to the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit - Wildlife Experience GC42F2J in Parker, CO. This was a birthday road trip for me. I have been wanting to do this for a few years now to get the icon. This trip was a blast for the whole family.

     Outside of the museum there are some great wildlife statues. The boys had a fun time playing on them. As you can see they joined the WOLF PACK. Once you go inside the museum there are cutouts of SIGNAL THE FROG everywhere. It was fun looking for all of them.

 

     
        The maze itself was pretty cool. There was a ton of great information inside. From the beginning of navigation to the creation of GPS there was a bunch to read about. One of the most interesting facts I found was that in 1983 president Ronald Reagan finally offered GPS to the civilian world after Korean Airlines flight 007 was shot down after straying off course. There was so many great little facts that were just amazing, and the interactive quiz's were fun to do.


      Also inside the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit were a few examples of geocaches. They had some really fun ones to find. From the ammo can inside a log, the Altoid cache on a bridge, to the urban style bus stop hide they had a variety of geocaches covered. We tried leaving a livelovecache.com card inside every one that we found.

                         
 












       They also had a display for travel bugs and geocoins. inside a nice plexi glass display case there were about 50 trackable items. We wrote down a list of the numbers we could see for discovery. There were some awesome looking coins and bugs inside. There were also displays of different GPS units.

The museum also had another wonderful area to explore. It was a wildlife habitat display with a ton of interactive features. They had robotic talking mannequins. and some other neat robotic animals to look at. They were all separated into areas that were set up to look like the habitat they were from. One of the boys favorite things was the virtual fish pond that was projected on to the floor. When you got close to the projection or stood on it the fish would scatter. If you held still they would swim back in and surround you until you move. Some of the people were creepy like the Africans that talked creped me out. They seemed to stare at me the whole time. CREEPY.        

             


          







 












   In all we spent about two hours inside the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit - Wildlife Experience. It was one of the best family trips we have taken together. The The Wildlife Experience in Parker, CO is fantastic. I would suggest it to anyone geocachers and non-cachers alike. Thanks again for checking out www.livelovecache.com. GEOCACHING POKER RUN AND WHITE ELEPHANT PARTY

You might be asking yourself what face painting, poker, white elephant, BBQ, CITO , Geocaching Coins and Shenanigans have in common…

 

You guessed it…the best May 4th event ever!

12:00-4:00pm

• Game cards handed out in return for a White Elephant Prize donated to the prize table. Come and go as you please!

• Geocaching Poker Run Begins. 7 unique temporary caches to find!

• Organized outdoor games for kids and family in the park.

• Poker and Card Games at the Pavilion: played with geocoins, travel-bugs, trackables, pathtags, etc.

4:00-7:00

• Sign the Event Logbook. Barbeque Pot Luck Barbeque at the Pavilion (You only need to attend the BBQ to log a find on this event) .

5:30-7:00

• Tie Breaking contests. Poker Run White Elephant Prizes awarded.

7:00-8:00

• CITO around the park and along the Jordan River walkway

"What to Bring"…Your white elephant gifts, sense of adventure and a dish to share. I heard there is a need for salads. Bring your drinks and ice. The wonderful hosts provide paper plates, napkins, and plastic ware. Everyone bring their own meat items to BBQ.
 
     I think MadamButterfly sums it up best with her note on the event page:
“Make new friends and greet the old. Bring kids, dogs (on a leash), a white elephant, something for the pot luck, and come prepared to have a ball! There will be something for EVERYONE at this wild and crazy event! When Railroader921 and Madambutterfly1822 get together, we pull out all the stops to give you a good time!!! The setting is a lovely park and spacious picnic pavilion, covered in case of rain. Along with a yummy pot luck BBQ picnic, there will be plenty of family activities, including a playground for the kiddies, beach volleyball, a softball game, Frisbee toss, pin the GPS on the Froggie (Signal, of course) and face painting. But the BEST part, of course, will be the Poker Run! 7 different kinds of caches await your discovery! This will be a BLAST!!!! Find and stamp your card for all seven and collect your poker card hand. Then, make the best hand you can by trading swag, bartering, bribing, or any other means you can think of. Chances are you may win a funny, fabulous white elephant prize! Of course there will be time for discovering geocoins and Travel Bugs and Don't Forget your Camera!   Road trip to the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit - Wildlife Experience GC42F2J

     On Saturday April 13 2013 we set out from Salt Lake City, UT on a trip to Parker, CO. Our mission was simple, we wanted to see the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit - Wildlife Experience GC42F2J. I love collecting different icons for my geocaching profile, and this is one I did not have. We were not even an hour on the road and we hit a nice rain storm going through the canyon towards Wyoming. About 100 miles later that rain decided to turn into snow. For anyone who has driven the I-80 across WY you know the snow is crazy out there. There were times I was driving 25 mph on the freeway and was worried we were going to slide off. But I was also not going to let a little snow stop me from seeing this maze. We decided to stop for the night in Cheyenne,WY since the drive was taking a bit longer than expected. After letting the boys swim for a bit at the motel and resting ourselves we had the Idea to hurry and drive to Nebraska to find a few caches. This was also a state that we had not found a cache in yet. We made it to Nebraska about 11pm in the pouring rain and found Welcome to Nebraska GC1MBEK and McToys I found in my Other Caches GCN3GB Just to make sure we had a find in the state. We think the extra 100 miles of driving was way worth having another state on the map. On Sunday morning we woke up and found a few caches in Cheyenne, WY then and hit the road towards Denver, CO. About an hour into our drive we saw a great sight that caught both our eyes. The Budweiser plant in Fort Collins, CO.

                        

This was a great pit stop for all of us. They offer a tour and you can see the stables for the Clydesdale horses. They also offer two free 11 ounce samples of tasty beverages. They boys got root beer and pretzels. Darcey and I both enjoyed a few cold brews from the taps then we went on a little self guided tour.
I must suggest to anyone who is in the area stop by and check this place out. There are also a few caches to find in the area. I would  suggest looking for Mountain Vista 15 GC2K8NT the cache is only a few hundred feet from the parking lot and is a fun tricky hide. I almost gave up until reading the logs about how tricky it was.

After that awesome pit stop we hit the road again. About an hour later we arrived at the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit - Wildlife Experience GC42F2J.  

This was by far one of the most fun filled family trips we have taken so far. After the adventure maze we met up with a few great people from the Rocky Mountain DGS for dinner. We had a great time exchanging stories, discovering trackables and just shooting the breeze. We will do a post in the future about meeting these awesome folks and another about our visit to the maze. I found this book to be both inspirational and educational. The authors give oodles of advantageous background information for the beginner cacher. Yet there is still plenty of knowledge to be gleaned for the experienced adventurer. I loved reading through the chapter on how to create devilish caches that will challenge your fellow cachers wit or utterly bewilder them. I have found many of these evil caches around the USA - but I absolutely enjoyed the easy to follow instructions on how they were created! This book will take you on new adventures and challenge us to step up and create even more diabolical caches .... perhaps for a follow up book entitled Hellish Caches to plague your fellow treasure hunters ;) After reading this book you will be inspired to run down to your local hardware store and get started building wicked caches!
P.S. I would implore to the authors that their next book teach cachers all the tricks, websites, and how to's on solving geocaching puzzles!! Pretty pretty please :]

 Review ByMadambutterfly1822     This is a wonderful book for geocachers, whether it be for beginners or advanced. It is well written, easy to understand, and gives a thorough coverage of its topics. From it, I learned from the first 15-20 minutes of reading, things it took me over a year to learn in bits and pieces from experience. It begins with a history of the sport of geocaching, complete with a list of the equipment needed. It explains the "ethic expectations" of good geocaching, such as leaving invisible footprints, respecting the rules, and respecting the COs and fellow cachers. It covers everything from "GC terms to know", how satellite positioning works, how to use different apps on a GPS, to whatever else you need to know to play the game. The promotes emphasizes the importance of following safety procedures both at home during the construction of the projects and in the wild. It offers easy-to-understand directions on how to get registered with geocaching.com as well as several other geocaching websites which may be used for the game or shopping for various geocache items, as well as how to navigate the website and how to use your GPS device to help you actually FIND A CACHE, which, after all, is the whole point.      While all these sections are informative and helpful, the real fun of the book begins with the second half of the book on THE MAKING AND HIDING OF A CACHE, and in this, the authors excel. If you are a cache placer who has limited yourself to merely putting out nanos or magnetic micros attached to a stop sign or tucked under a fire hydrant, believe me, reading this book will inspire you to greater ambitions! Having been friends since boyhood, as well as partners in the sport, these two maniacs have both found-and-shared and created their own exceedingly evil geocaches that will leave the rest of us grinning with envy. Grinning, because, after reading this book, we will be able to go out and become just as evil ourselves. HA! HA! HA! HA! (evil laugh). With clear, precise illustrations as well as explicit instructions, 101 diabolical cache ideas are presented. Many are humorous. Others are, well, just plain MEAN. Undoubtedly, they guarantee the seeker will laugh, cry, grit teeth, pop knuckles, kick the nearest tree, and curse right up until the second they make the FIND. Then they will laugh and grin from ear to ear! Use these cache ideas, my friends, and they most assuredly will most rack you up lots of favorite points! Included among these are the crushed can cache, the chewing gum cache, the scary log cache, the water spigot cache, the fake deadbolt cache, and the bailing bucket cache, to name but a few. While it may be noted that several of the projects require at least a rudimentary grasp of wood shop skills, most do not. Most are constructed of easily-attainable odds and ends, with a very do-able assembly. This is a good thing, as my personal expertise right now goes only as far as what I can rig up with a few wires and duct tape. Watch out, however! After reading this book, my skills have gone up at least three notches! As for those readers who actually know how to run a jigsaw or hook up a current with wires, you will probably want to take some of the ideas in the book to the next level and concoct you own more complicated (meaning, downright sinister) versions. In fact, coming up with your own spinoffs is highly encouraged. Although I certainly intend to duplicate many of these ideas for myself, I am also (like many of you) the type that likes my caches to be one-of-a-kind. I am anticipating this book will become a springboard; I can't wait to see where these ideas can lead me! Hopefully, on a journey to create my own equally-dastardly devices. In short, I loved this book. I would highly recommend it as an inspiration for the future sneaky, sinfully- perverse, delightful frustrations I intend to inflict on my dear finders. I am determined to progress from a gentle lamb whose caches always fall within the realm of no more than a 2-difficulty rating to a lioness whose 4-difficulty caches lie in wait to pounce on their prey!      Balkamper13 & I are also huge fans of this book. When we got it we started reading it immediately. We could not put it down. We loved how it covered the history of caching as well as ideals on how to keep caching fun. Both of us are preachers of quality fun caches that exceed the micro hide.
